Woman Leader Protects Children from Unlawful Detention

After attending SAWABENU's legal awareness training, community leader Annie Merchant learned that town chiefs cannot legally arrest or handcuff people. When a local chief handcuffed two children accused of sexual activity, Annie intervened immediately. She informed the chief his actions were illegal and threatened to report him to the magistrate. The children were released on the spot.
